Forth Fare Fair – an obituary

Not things to be undertaken lightly.

Little journeys.

Journeys that were both a physical and cerebral struggle.

But journeys are about interaction. Struggling with journeys leads to less interaction. Less interaction leads to less still.

All the journeys once had a number. An imprinted number. The significance of that number would be passed down. Some of the numbers had been important. For example, 42.

Judgments were made on their account. For example, 54. Sometimes unfairly. For example, 121.

There were journeys that were made to promote self-happiness. For example, 64. There were work journeys. For example, 17. There were miserable journeys. For example, 9. There were nothing journeys. For example, 159.

The worst journeys were the unnumbered promised journeys. The ones that never happened. Unnumbered meant insignificant. Easier to ignore. Those journeys cost hope and smiles. (Money was still dearer).

Time moves on.

The journeys become still shorter. The numbered ones ceased a long time ago anyway. (Except 1 and 2). Without chat. Without fare. Without encumbrance.

The next journey was to a nowhere place. For example, 63. (But with. Care. Talk. Paperwork). But that did not matter. Not any more.

It never really did.

Care made comfort there. Comfort made peace. Peace made two much shorter journeys.

Without numbers. (And no coat required).

(Or fare). (Even better).

The departure was reasonable. Rational. Even the sunshine made it too.

There may well have been approval. For example, 142.

(Oh and 12 too).

Pass right down the car please.

Ting-ting-ting.
